Astrobox is Password Protected

Just installed the latest .img for RPi (4/23/2015). Setup was a breeze, until I shutdown (using the button in the UI).

When I restarted and tried to open the UI, I get “Astrobox-nnnn is password protected.” I’ve tried both the default password for user pi: “raspberry” as well as my AstroPrint password, but neither works.

Btw, I can successfully SSH into the RPi from my mac – ‘raspberry’ works as the password.

How in the heck to I regain control?

To unlock a box that has a user logged in, you need the user’s AstroPrint password. A couple of questions:

  • do you see your AstroPrint username ( email you used to signup ) in the locked screen?
  • can you see the box in the monitor app at AstroPrint.com?

Yes, my AstroPrint username/email address is displayed and matches my online account.

Yes, I see the box in the monitor app. It displays Online and Error. When I click through, i get the password screen.

What browser are you using? are you blocking cookies?

Chrome 42 on Yosemite 10.10.3.
RPi is Pi 2 Model B (brand new).
Not blocking cookies.

Thanks!

That’s exactly the environment we test on around here

Would you mind moving this to our support system at https://astroprint.zendesk.com so that we can do deeper analysis of this?

Hi, I’m interested to hear how this issue turned out. Want to change the password on the Astrobox but I can’t. I successfully changed the password on my Astroprint account but not the box. Thoughts?

@Chris_McCoy:

So, the Astrobox remembers the last password you used on it PRIOR to changing it on the Astroprint.com cloud. So, if you remember, use that to login to the Astrobox, then once it’s connected to the cloud, it will update with the new password.

Is that correct @Daniel ?

Thanks @dilanka! Still keeping the old password that I created initially. Wish I could change. Funny thing is though, that even when I install a new Astrobox, it still asks me for that old password. Not sure where that password is stored but would love to hear any updates / ideas on how to troubleshoot. Thanks!

The box encrypts and stores the last successful password that was entered for a particular user. This is done so we can protect the box even when it’s offline and it can’t check with our servers. Once a password is changed on the server and the box has a chance to check with our servers, the stored password will be updated with the latest successful one.

A “Restore Settings” operation should wipe out all stored passwords.
