Better File Naming convention

I’d like to see longer print file names if possible. I often have many variations and print files for a single model but unless I make the model and printer name very short I can’t tell my print files apart. Longer names or more control of the file names would help considerably.

@Darren_DeVecchio:

I think it is a necessity to have the “Filename” field be editable… but not entirely sure about LONGER filenames. That could get messy.

With that said, I have added an official feature request here: https://github.com/AstroPrint/AstroBox/issues/79

Let me know :slightly_smiling:

I can see the issue with long file names.

I also kinda like the auto naming of files as coming up with unique names is a pain.

Maybe some clean up of how the name generator works might help.

This is partly tied up with the custom slicing profile features others have mentioned. Then including the slicing profile name in the file name would be a partial solution.

I think making an effort to get more info on a single screen would help.
(On demand expansion to get more information is nice in certain situations but gets tedious to keep doing for simple lists of needed information like print files)

Including some selectable group of slicing parameters in the meta data displayed In the filename list might work as well as or better than long file names. The names could then be simpler and serialized or time stamped or something to keep them unique and auto generate, but we could easily see a file name and a line or two of additional information that would serve to distinguish the files.
