Box suddenly goes offline on remote access attempt

Hi guys,

I have had a couple of successful prints using my Raspberry Pi with Astroprint on it. These were just short prints. Today though, it’s all changed.

Earlier today, I could no longer monitor my printer on WiFi. At this point I did not have a print running. I couldn’t do anything to access it so I had to turn it off at the wall since I couldn’t safely turn it off. It happened once more but since I was messing about with my printer I thought it was something I’ve done.

So this afternoon (15:45) I finished my 3D model and sliced it on the cloud, then sent to print. I was out the house and checked it over the Internet @ 17:00 and could stream video fine. I’ve been back home since and it all worked fine on WiFi.

I’m out again and I’ve just tried to connect to it but won’t work!

Does this mean that the print will have crashed? Is this a software issue? I’m scared of constantly turning my Pi off at the wall and damaging it.

Has anyone else experienced this behaviour with Pi 3?

After returning home I found the print still in progress. Still confused why I couldn’t find the printer and monitor it despite the fact I had done so earlier.

Trying to find it on my home network now by typing in its IP address and I can’t connect.

Basically, my Pi Astrobox has gone rogue.

I had this problem all the time. I have an Echo that found my router first time I turned it on. I power it down and later power it up and it finds the router every time I do it. AstroPrint has a ways to go.

What’s one of them? I tried OctoPrint but that was too complicated to start on.

@Jared_Howell:

The Pi 3 release (v0.9) is still new, so it’s certainly possible to experience weird glitches. Apologies!

With that said, on your Astrobox settings, is the Turn off hotspot setting checked or not? If it is checked, uncheck it and you should ALWAYS see a local hotspot of your Astrobox.

The primary reason (usually) for the disappearance of a Astrobox hotspot is because it is successfully paired with your local network/cloud and you have indicated that a hotspot is NOT needed in the settings.

With that said, you can try accessing the Astrobox by going to either http://Astrobox.local OR http://10.10.0.1 WHILE you are on the same local WiFi network.

Not necessarily. Because, after the GCODE file is sent to the printer and it’s in the middle of printing, it’s very unlikely that the print would crash.

It could be a software issue. Too early to give you a definite answer.

While it’s not recommended, I wouldn’t worry much about turning the RPi on and off – they are quite robust and very unlikely to ‘break’ by this method.

Let me know if that helps
