Materials Settings

Maybe I am confused…

My materials settings are not getting into my sliced G-Code.

My understanding was that if things like Bed and Extrusion temp were NOT explicitly set in the custom Slice settings then the slicer would use the parameters set in the materials config.

I am using cura at the moment and it seems to have its own defaults.

(i.e. my material is set to 195/50 but cura wants to use 210/70) even when I delete the cura setting
which I verified in the files area by clicking my sliced print job after the slice (no temps were shown).

I did note the 210/70 show up as a very light number in the slice settings after I deleted the previous setting.
I presumed this was some sort of default if the materials settings were not set…but I know the materials
values are set in my material profile.

And just an off topic note, I’d like to see a bit more contrast in the settings edit boxes as is they are very hard to read. the light blue/green or gray on the white background seems a poor choice…The boxes are huge maybe thicker text would work but just a darker shade would be good too.

This is correct. Is it not doing that?

For example, if you have 220 (degrees) set for PLA and PLA is chosen as a material type, that temperature should be used by default.

I believe @josh is already working on the readability issue (s)

I think the readability has already changed…and it seems much better…Big Thanks.

And using the filament default settings is still not working right for me.
Sometimes it seems like it is, but most of the time I seem to get some other
default that is pretty much always the same and not what I set for the filament.

My feeling is it has something to do with my iterative approach to getting a good slicing config. Maybe I am doing something wrong…

I set up my material, I usually use the built in normal settings (cura) and then choose advanced and tweak some things I know I want right off. (if I look in the filament part of the the slice setting I can see the proper material default) I then save these settings and each time I go back I choose this setting profile and go in and re-tweak as needed based on what I saw on a preceding print. Usually this doesn’t involve changing the material settings in the slicer config but sometimes I decide it just needs to be hotter or cooler or something. I can change the settings in the slicer config but once I get a good print I want to put those settings back into my material profile as my baseline for that profile and remove the slicer setting so that it will default to using the material profile…this is where it falls apart. I can change the material setting but of course the slicer setting overrides as expected. I can delete the slicer settings and I get this very dim number after the delete…this number is not from my material config it seems to always be a fixed number…maybe a cura default?

That default number might be from the manufacturer if you initially picked the printer from the list or a cura default if your printer was completely custom.

This might be confusing but if you like the values in your material profile be used, leave the field empty when you save your profile

I do leave them empty, and they do not show up in the review I get from the files page that shows all the settings for a particular print file. However I get the bogus setting in the actual g-code that is generated…I need to play with this a little more so I can have a better idea of just how this fails…since it is not a really common occurrence. Maybe if I am careful I can see just what I am doing that causes the problem.

And you are correct I did use a known printer as mine is a custom machine (it is a large delta similar to the SeeMeCNC machines or the DeltaMaker not sure which i used as the basis for my printer setup)…is there anyway to edit those setting or create / add my machine to the list of known printers.
