Prusa Slicer can print directly to astrobox

This may not be a surprise to some, but the astrobox api (not the cloud api) is compatable with octoprint.

That means if you are using the prusa slicer, you can print directly from the slicer.

Would it still capture the print history and keep it in sync it with the cloud, or would it act as an independent operation? Likewise, will the gcode be kept in the library on the AstroBox?

It uploads the gcode directly to the raspberry pi, so it is not present on the astroprint cloud.
