I just started using Astroprint and love it, getting great prints even better than with Simplify3D but on some big prints 14hours about 4 hours into the print i get warping I have tried different setting using the brim and raft but have not found any good setting. Can you give me some settings to try?
Simplfy3d is quite good with its settings.
Assuming you didnt have the warping with s3d then I would compare my astroprint slice settings to what was used in s3d. If you are using the cura cloud slicer i would try slic3r. Both have their strong points though slic3r has some extra options so it might be easier to match up with s3d.
Finally one thing I have noticed is the environment can effect the print if you donât have an enclosed printer. So if it was warmer before and now you have the AC blowing toward the printer might do it. Bed treatment and cooling while printing were my biggest causes of warpage.
Maybe some if that will help.
I have had warping with the s3d but by adding a raft it has helped, i have a solidoodle 4 completely enclosed and has a cooling fan but for some reason i get a smoother outer surface with Astroprint default than with s3d and I have tired different settings. But I am a noobie to 3d printing and so have a hard time transferring the s3d raft settings to Astroprint cura raft settings. What setting to attach a raft to the object and extend the raft out about 6 or 7 from object to hold the piece down?
This is a big factor ^
I am mostly a sli3r userâŚhowever I think cura calls what you want a brim (a raft is under an object and usually thicker.) a brim surrounds the object on the first layer and always touches the object (skirts do not touch or help with warping they are more for extruder priming). Cura uses a number of surrounding lines instead of a mm measure, which is odd since things like perimeter thickness is in mm.
Assuming you are using the web slicer with cura, I think if you go to the âskirt and brim sectionâ in the advanced slice settings you will see a number called ânumber of brim linesâ, you need to put a number in here to get a brimâŚtypically a number like 20 or 30 will do it. I know on my cura profiles it shows like there is a default number here but I do not get a brim unless I actually enter a number, but that may be be due to my self-made printer profile.
And I agree cure somehow makes nicer default surfaces than some other slicersâŚI think maybe it uses a thiner outside perimeter.
Edited for typos and clarity.
