Recently printed category in File Manager and other tweaks

I’d like to see a section in the file manger like the ‘my projects’ and “my designs” called “my recent prints”

As you can guess I would like maybe the last few or at least the last attempted print to show up here as a fully clickable project (not like the recently sliced that is really not very useful). Or maybe it could be a link that takes you to the specific model entry in the file manager…

My reasoning here is I typically print or make a few attempts to print each item (often re-slicing with a tweak) and scrolling back through the list of files either in projects or design to get back to what I am working on gets to be a hassle…probably using the search and a better naming convention on my part would help but a recent or last print might still be handy.

I would also suggest maybe reducing the heading/project fonts and bands a bit too to make more space,
and when pulling down the slice file for a specific design the font should be colored to match the model name or at least made a darker or contrasting color…on my system at least it is a very pale blue/green that is hard to see against the white background…the design names are okay.

This might be a tough one but I think there is alot of open space in the file manager which is fine but as a result it causes much more scrolling that I think is ideal. Ever since computer displays went to 16:9 vertical space is at a premium while alot of horizontal space is wasted. Any way to narrow the file manager so that we can get more entries per page? Just seems like alot of white space…I know I can narrow my browser window and that space will shrink but that doesn’t help me see more astrprint info…

How about making the thumbnails in the print history items clickable so that it would take you to the print screen for that object?

That could work too…although I would prefer something in the file manger…maybe clickable icons of the first few items in the print history or maybe…a third button up at the top next to the “upload” and “new projects” add “print history” This way from the file manger you cat get to history from history you can click as you suggest and go back to the proper location in the file manager. Kinda of a lot of moving around but maybe it would be okay. hard to do without getting cluttered I suppose. I guess part of my thing is I don’t like clicking back to the dashboard all the time when I want to move from area to area in what seems a logical fashion having to click back to a dashboard then selecting what I want feels clumsy. I like that the file manager allows you to directly upload, it makes sense to be able to upload from the file manager this is similar.

I see. There are print history pop ups in every design and even print file. If you open design or print file menu you will see the option “Print History” right on the File Manager. I can make the design image on those clickable too.

That should satisfy your requirement?

I have implemented it and it’s now live on the site. Let us know what you think.

Just realized that the links in the files app are not very helpful as you still need to find the design :frowning:

Let me think about how we could add this information to the file app without cluttering it too much. That part of our site is already very loaded with stuff

I was trying to see what had changed but I guess I didn’t follow what you said…

I did just notice in print history there is a ‘print activity’ button I never noticed before…not relate to this at all but a neat item.

Now that I know I can re-slice from the print history…which maybe that is what you were saying that gets me 90% o the way there…I just have to head to print history instead of the file manager when I wasn’t to rework recently printed items…

FYI I’ve just tried the latest version (0.9.6?), and my sliced .x3g file does not completely upload when uploading from the main screen (sits on 95% for a while, then moves to 98% and goes no further - and it’s not a complex model).

However if I go through the file manager and “upload” from here, I get the new popup window - on this occasion it uploaded and I got an error message about communication errors with the printer (FFCP), though the file did make it into the file list - albeit back towards the bottom of the list annoyingly as per usual. (EDIT - This communication error only occurred the once, I’ve now tried 5 models and it hasn’t repeated) I did have a Github request re this that was solved yesterday by addition of the new direct print upload pop-up, however I still think this ordering needs to be sorted… please?

I’m also finding that after a print finishes the upload button on both the main screen and also in file manager are showing as busy uploading (at 98% again). An F5 refresh fixes most of the time.

Could I also suggest that perhaps a file is marked as printed, maybe by an icon or even changing the font/type?

I do appreciate all your hard work - so far I’ve stayed with your product rather than going to try Octoprint because I enjoy the simplicity, however little things like this become frustrating a bit.
