Multiple printers…
My raspberry pi 3 has two more open USB ports…
I second the classroom idea as thats would help me and the kids.
Also yes to multiple printer support either via the pi or direct off a desktop. Id like to use an old pc (got plenty in the classroom) to replace the Pi. If Each printer needs a seperate Pi then thats almost $40 extra i have to scrape/budget instead i could use an old window or linux pc that might be gathering dust.
I am in Brisbane Australia and just recently bought a Cocoon create from Aldi. (Wanhao i3 mini)
Have been using Tinkercad on a chromebook to draw and create stl files and was using the Cura app on my aging pc to slice to gcode. After creating a custom printer on your site and adding the start and end codes Astroprint cut out this middle step. All I need is my chromebook. I work at a school and think the print manager idea is a good one. (similar to papercut management mode.
Papercut is print management software) My 3d printer only accepts files from an SD card so
the print manager job is just collecting the gcode files and writing them to a card for printing.
But it would be excellent for a 3d printer controlled from a PC or maybe directly to LAN
like a laser cutter. It realy needs to be in close proximity to the device, unless the printer has a print release function.
IDEA
Share settings for printers and materials including ratings by users. Material should be independent from printers, though there can be a material database.
USE CASE
- New users can reuse proven setups from experienced users / community. I am using a Renkforce 100 v2, which is not in database.
- You can earn money using affiliate links in material database
IDEA
Preview, place and rotate multiple STL.
USE CASE
I use AstroPrint as my notebook does not OpenGL 2.0 Neese for Cura. With the 4 features (preview, place, rotate and multiple) I would have a fully cloud based solution running even on a pad.
Especially when importing STL from Thingiverse a CAD program would not be necessary to be involved.
IDEA
Share printer from AstroBox
USE CASE
- As private user I can give access to my printer to my friends each having an own account. Limited amount of print per period.
- Upgrade Feature: As a Shop Incan sell my capacity.
I would love to see a print cost estimator. Users could enter the price of filament and the estimator could factor in print time to estimate a final cost.
@Brad1, that’s a great request. Could you add it here: https://astroprint.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/topics/200094139-Feature-Requests?sort_by=votes so we can see what the community thinks about it via votes
A plugin for Onshape would be great, so I dont have to download each STL file after modeling it
S3D integration is actually already there. S3D has a post process command that after slicing will call any command you want and pass it the gcode filename. Currently my post process command is scp to copy the file to the uploads directory on my pi, then I use my touch screen to brown the local files and print. Super nice!
This could be easily replaced with an custom app instead of scp that would connect to the API and kick off the print.
Astroprint touch:
screen compatability with PiTFT - Assembled 480x320 3.5" TFT+Touchscreen for Raspberry Pi
Astroprint:
Photo and video streaming to URL (not requiring login)
Multi camera angle support
standalone pre heat automation
Sti file easy slice functions
flip , rotate
I second @BjoernK 's idea of sharing printers. We have many employees who would like to connect to the same machines. Maybe this is possible already through the professional versions?
Other ideas:
- Easy connection on corporate wifi systems
- Instead of Raspberry Pis, could we use old android / iPhones to run these desktop 3D printers?
I’ll keep thinking of more as I go.
Thanks!
I have a few ideas would be nice to see:
-
filament runout sensor support
-
customisable command buttons (be able to set for example reset bltouch command using code etc… at touch of a button or move to specific preset coordinates etc… .)
-
backward compatibility with octoprint plugins
-
extra cancel button with option to keep heaters on when print is cancelled so you arent waiting for a reheat if a print fails and you have to clear the bed for a restart.
-
email to say print has finished takes photo from attached camera so you can see the finished result immediately if away from home
IDEA:
- Printer Groups
USE CASE:
- Printer location (we have multiple spaces in our office with printers)
- Printer Setup (we have different printers setup for different prints)
- As we add more and more printers to Astroprint it would make it easier to manage.
IDEA:
- On monitor page for printer have the last file printed with a print again option
USE CASE: - When printing multiples of the same object with same settings it would be quicker to just click print again on the monitor page than adding them to the queues.
OR
IDEA:
- On monitor page have print next file in queue
I’d like to see an integration with Palette 2 and Canvas Hub.
At present there is no integration, but it should be feasible.
Is this API still in development? if yes i would love to help testing and developing stuff.
I would like to add support for power managment of my printer, not via GPIO but via wifi using a Sonoff wifi remote socket something like that
It’s true that a 2 pro S palette integration would be really perfect
